In December 2009 City College Norwich launched a five-year Strategy which contained an objective of developing 21st century environments that are conducive to student success and environmentally sustainable. What followed was a project on improving its waste management, publication of an Environmental Statement, forming a team of Eco Warriors and a behavioural change programme.
Within a year, significant achievements were evident, including a rise in recycling from 7.6% to around 60% for all college operations and a saving of 20% in waste management costs. Thus City College has achieved recognition as a responsible leader in its community while enhancing its financial sustainability.
