University of Gloucestershire's Business Management Programme

It is the ‘business’ of a university to offer learning opportunities which will equip students for their future lives and careers.  In order to do this, tutors’ need a toolkit of concepts that will challenge students to think critically about issues that are relevant to them and, in so doing, transforms the way they see their subject. 

At the University of Gloucestershire we placed sustainability as the central focus of the Business Management programme.  Students were required throughout the course to offer sustainable solutions to problems in marketing, human resources, finance and operations.  We found through this that students were able to put business problems in a wider context and, importantly, consider the impact of their solutions on others.  Sustainability to us showed itself to be a truly transformative educational concept for students.
