Tendering for waste management services
- Is it all waste (household, special/hazardous, radioactive etc)?
- Do you want one contractor, full recycling, education?
- What duration of contract?
- Speak to other similar institutions in size and location to see
what they have done and “borrow” their best ideas
- Undertake a preliminary review
- Ask tenderers to examine your waste management practices
and to provide appropriate suggestions.
- Ask for references, look for guarantees for maintenance of recycling. Initially a contract of 2 years should be long enough to indicate success or otherwise of the project. A renewal option could be included.
- Provide sufficient time for site inspections surveys
- Select short list and prepare questions for interviews. Review references
- Assess presentation and confirm credentials and experience. Check Duty of Care
