Each year, Sustainability Services offer paid internship to University of Leeds students. The Service generally recruits two ‘year in industry’ students on a 12 month placement and, in addition, seeks shorter term summer interns to work on specific project outputs where appropriate. Student Interns are offered the opportunity to work on projects that address specific sustainability challenges across the University and wider community. The projects are of strategic relevance and play an important role in delivery of the University’s objectives. Interns are fully embedded into the team and form a valuable part of the wider Service. They are given responsibility to research, design and deliver innovative, tangible projects that have real and visible campus wide positive social and environmental impacts. The Service gains the additional benefit of having members of the team with current student perspective, giving particular emphasis and support to student engagement projects and embedding sustainability in the curriculum. Previous Interns have gone on to secure successful careers in the sustainability sector, hugely benefiting from their experiences through development of knowledge and key skills and through the development of their professional network.
