Sustainability enhances the reputation of an institution. Biodiversity projects are often highly visual and conspicuous and demonstrate a sustainable approach to business practice. Biodiversity will be an important aspect in environmental reporting and in gaining official accreditation, for example through Learning in Future Environment (LiFE), EcoCampus, ISO14001, BS8555 or EMAS. Your biodiversity projects will also be eligible for an EAUC Green Gown Award as well as other local and national awards.
Protecting and enhancing biodiversity will be important if you are aiming to be awarded with sustainable construction standards such as BREEAM. This standard contains a wide variety of biodiversity criteria that can contribute to the level of award that you can expect to achieve and promote long term biodiversity management in new developments.
