Practical survey methods

Before undertaking a survey that will involve collecting and sorting waste, it is important to confirm its acceptability with your Health and Safety Advisor.

You should also take care when asking questions of staff. They should not feel that they are being criticised or judged in any way; emphasise that you are just fact-finding. Any antagonism at this stage will have a detrimental effect on the overall success of the waste management initiative.
