Veolia, the global resource management company, has been recognised as a leader in environmental and social responsibility by winning the Responsible Business of the Year Award 2016,
Business in the Community’s flagship award.
The award recognises Veolia’s role in transforming itself into a resource management company that is committed to the circular economy and is aimed at businesses that are creating long-term sustainable value. In particular it highlights those who embed a sustainable approach to their core decision making and whose operations support a stronger society.
Commenting on the award, Estelle Brachlianoff, Senior Executive Vice-President Veolia UK & Ireland said: “Winning this award shows how our 14,000-strong team has made responsible thinking part of how we do business. We are committed to saving resources, carbon reduction and building a sustainable future, and investing in communities through apprenticeships and employing people from marginalised groups.”

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “The Responsible Business Awards provide the proof that from the largest global multinational to the smallest local firm, business is a powerful force for good in society. This year we have seen some profound examples of what business can achieve when it puts responsibility at the heart of its operations. I congratulate Veolia for the practical action it has taken to build a fairer world and more sustainable future."
Veolia's services benefit the UK population through waste and recycling services, water management and treatment, generating low carbon and renewable heat and electricity, and by providing new materials to industry. These cut emissions to help mitigate climate change, and preserve precious resources for future generations.
Presented at a Gala Dinner on July 11, 2016 at the London O2, the independently judged Awards celebrate and reward organisations who work in a sustainable and responsible way. Attended by 1,600 guests from businesses, communities, NGOs, government and media the annual event emphasized this strategy and its importance to communities and the environment.
