Planned updates to 2025/26 People and Planet University League scoring

14th March 2025

Ahead of the 2025/26 University League submissions, EAUC has worked with People and Planet to successfully advocate for changes to bring the scoring in line with other frameworks used by universities.

The agreed changes, to be applied to the 2025/26 University League, are:

1. If your institution uses HESCET for its supply chain emissions, it will be exempt from reporting on transportation on goods (as per guidance in the SCEF).

2. If you institution is in Scotland, the Public Sector Climate Change Duties (PBCCD) reporting data will be used rather than the EMR. This is considered a more comprehensive data set for institutions in Scotland. EAUC will provide People and Planet with the publicly available data for each Scottish institution.

3. Institutions without student accommodation will not be penalised for non-reporting of these emissions.

Note for 2025/26 that People and Planet have decided not to award points for having a net-zero target in place. Instead, the scoring methodology will focus more on emissions reporting and mitigation rather than target setting.
