Universities must lead the way on the sustainability agenda
21st February 2012
In these tough and challenging times for the higher education sector, there is no question that there are gems of opportunity present for the sustainability and environmental agenda.
Jonathon Porritt, founder director of Forum for the Future and now chancellor at Keele University, presents an article that focusses on "the critical role that the higher education sector can play in helping to bring sustainable activities into mainstream society."
He notes that "...we need to ensure that research into sustainability is being supported and funded, not just by universities themselves, but by the government and businesses. In this fast-changing landscape, covering every aspect of sustainability, it's an increasingly important area that we should all be investing in."
This is true for all aspects of sustainability, from knowledge transfer to training and community engagement.
