The University of Malaysia Sabah collaborates with the EAUC
24th January 2013
Over the past few days senior managers from The University of Malaysia Sabah have been frequenting a number of institutions across England in the pursuit of sustainability insight.
Their journey led them to the UK Head office for the sustainability champion for UK universities and colleges the EAUC, stationed within the heart of the University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus, to meet with EAUC CEO Iain Patton and Member Services Manager Lisa Walkley. The Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Registrar and Bursar led the delegation to the UK to learn more about the EAUC, international collaboration and the sustainability excellence within EAUC membership in an attempt to absorb and explore the concept of Sustainability and how it is embedded in the educational sector here in the UK.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Harun Abdullah is at the forefront of embedding sustainability within the education sector in Malaysia and is the first to commit his university to a whole-organisation approach to sustainability. The delegation were extremely interested in how universities in the UK put in place and drive sustainability change processes and particular interest was expressed in the potential value of the LiFE Index (www.thelifeindex.org.uk) to unite the institution and manage and report their sustainability performance in a more formal way.
CEO Iain Patton noted that ‘’it was encouraging to see committed leadership from a Vice Chancellor's team with a burning desire to embed the principles and values of environmental, economic and social sustainability. I am sure we can help them and inturn learn from them to support UK practice’’.
The University of Malaysia Sabah are keen to maintain a constant dialogue with the UK via the EAUC as they have been impressed with the excellence they’ve witnessed so we’ll keep you update on their progress.
