Sustainable Restaurant Association Award winners revealed

This year’s most sustainable restaurants in the UK were announced at the annual
Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) Awards ceremony in London. Now in its fourth year, the 2015 awards which took place on Monday at the Oval Space look to celebrate and honour those organisations driving forward sustainability across the sector.
Daylesford and The Captain's Galley were awarded the top accolade jointly of
“Most Sustainable Restaurant of the Year”. With its farm based in Gloucestershire and organic farmshops in London, Daylesford, grow and produce delicious food using sustainable practices which is organically and farmed and with nature in mind. The Captain's Galley located in Caithness, Scotland only serves the freshest selection of seasonal seafood. Produce for the restaurant is locally sourced and the seafood is caught sustainably and distributed from the Scrabster fish market.
At the ceremony the awards acknowledged the work and achievements of organisations in a variety of areas, including sustainable innovation, best food waste strategy and awards for the environment and society. Sustainable restaurant StarBistro which is based in the beautiful grounds of Ullenwood Manor at National Star College won The People’s Favourite Award. It offers young people with disabilities the opportunity to gain work experience within a restaurant setting. They prepare seasonal dishes using local ingredients sourced from around Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.
One of the runners-up in the people’s favourite category was The Real Junk Food Project, who are a pioneering movement aimed at avoiding food waste by intercepting produce destined for landfill. They will be supplying the food at the first ever Student Sustainability Summit which is being held the day before our
Annual Conference.
