QMU receives Outstanding Leadership recognition in national awards
24th April 2012
The management team at Queen Margaret University (QMU) has been shortlisted for a prestigious higher education sector leadership award. Within three years QMU has been transformed from a university facing many challenges in terms of its finances, strategy and organisational culture, to one with a clear and widely understood mission, vision and strategy, with healthy finances and greatly improved performance.
The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards celebrate leadership, management, financial and business skills in UK higher education institutions. QMU's place among the UK finalists recognises how strong leadership, clear decision-making and staff engagement has been pivotal to its success in increasing student applications, student numbers, research and commercialisation success, and financial results.
Commenting on the shortlisting QMU Principal Professor Petra Wend said: "I am delighted that, thanks to the efforts of all staff, QMU’s senior management team has been ranked among the best in the sector from across the UK. An organisational restructure and our focus on developing the three academic flagships in health and rehabilitation, sustainable business and culture and creativity has produced an energised institution. Transparency and consultation has transformed our culture, our financial position and the way in which we are perceived at home and abroad."
The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards will be announced during an evening ceremony on 21 June 2012 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
