New Sustainable Development Curriculum Guides Published on SORTED
19th October 2009
Two new sustainable development curriculum guides have been published on the SORTED website.
The two documents, written by ESD Consulting on behalf of the LSC and supported by the EAUC, are designed to help learning organisations embed sustainable development into their curriculum.
The first guide, 'Embedding Sustainable Development in the Curriculum' is aimed at staff within learning institutions and provides information on how to embed sustainability into what and how they teach. In an easy to follow format, the document identifies some of the approaches currently being used, gathers a variety of examples and provides a list of contacts should you wish to speak to anyone further.
The second document, 'Creating the Conditions for Embedding Sustainable Development in the Curriculum', provides guidance for senior managers on how they can support the embedding of sustainability within the curriculum.
This guide highlights ways in which you can create the conditions to allow sustainable development to be embedded into the curriculum by supporting staff to make it happen. There are a number of practical examples of how some institutions are demonstrating leadership in sustainable development, which are aimed at stimulating thought and questions. Coupled with the points raised throughout the document, the guide aims to prompt senior managers to ask themselves how they are performing in this area.
Both curriculum guides can be found on the SORTED Recommended Resource page under Teaching and Learning
