Low Carbon Vehicle Public Procurement Programme Support for low carbon vans
17th September 2012
The Government’s Low Carbon Vehicle Public Procurement Programme (LCVPPP) was set up in 2007 to help stimulate the market for lower carbon vehicles. It has provided financial assistance to public sector organisations wishing to procure innovative, lower carbon vehicles for their fleets.
In its first phase, the programme has provided funding to support the trial of over 200 electric and low emission vans in a range of public fleets. The LCVPPP is allowing for the collection of ‘real-world’ data about the vehicles’ performance and usage, helping to drive ongoing technological development; as well as demonstrate the existing capabilities of these vehicles.
In November 2011, OLEV Ministers took the decision to allow Ashwoods, supplier of the low carbon van, to continue into the second phase of the programme. Further funding of up to GBP1.7m is now available for any public fleet buyers to purchase a further 500 low carbon vans from the procurement framework.
Ashwoods is the only company whom the Department for Transport has selected to offer this Grant funding opportunity which can only be taken up by public sector organisations. Ashwoods successfully proved their technology to the DfT over a 3 year period where 4 million miles were covered with routine testing and Fleet manager feed back from 14 public sector organisations utilising 138 Hybrid vans.
For the first 500 vans, OLEV will provide a grant of GBP3,430 per van to discount the additional cost, which is expected not to be necessary as volumes grow further.
Jason Clarke, Energy and Environmental Manager of
City University recently took delivery of their new Hybrid Van and stated:
“The LCVPP Phase 2 Grant funding is a great opportunity for City to replace a vehicle in our fleet that is going to be reducing our carbon emissions as well as costing in over its lifespan. The guys at Ashwoods were fantastic, we had the quotes the same day, ordered in 2 days and because the van was in stock, we had our new hybrid van within 2 weeks!"
Martin Kadhim Business Development at
Ashwoods said:
“This is a great opportunity for the Education Sector. Panel vans and Minibuses vehicles lead an important role within any campus, this is an opportunity to procure an innovative, yet tried and tested product that will reduce your carbon whilst covering your costs”
