HEFCE Survey Measuring Scope 3 Emissions from Higher Education Institutions
HEFCE Survey Measuring Scope 3 Emissions from Higher Education Institutions
28th March 2011
HEFCE has commissioned work to assist in measuring scope 3 emissions from higher education institutions (HEIs). The objectives of this work are to:
• establish a sector baseline of emissions from procurement
• produce definitions for measuring scope 3 emissions at institutional level for use within the Estates Management Statistics from 2012/13
• provide guidance that helps institutions with the associated data collection.
To canvas the views of stakeholders and help ensure that the definitions and guidance meet the needs of the sector, the project team is seeking to engage with HEIs via face to face meetings, telephone interviews and online collaboration. Two online surveys, one on travel and the other on water and waste, are seeking to gather information on what data is currently collected and the availability of data for future reporting:
• business travel and commuting (managed by JMP), available at
www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZT37W56
• water and waste (managed by Arup and De Montfort University), available at
www.surveymonkey.com/s/5B7VXPB
The deadline for responses is Thursday 21 April.
The project is due to complete in August 2011 and is being guided by an advisory group that includes representatives from the Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE), the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA), the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), ENP and the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The recommended definitions will be considered by the Estate Management Statistics Review Group for inclusion in the EMS data collection from 2012/13.
