Every Can Count helps Durham University go green

New video shows how a drinks can recycling programme is helping Durham University achieve its sustainability goals.
As universities across the country look to reduce waste and operate more sustainably, improving recycling rates is playing an increasingly significant role in achieving environmental objectives. One initiative that has been helping universities and further education colleges divert waste from landfill is out of home drinks can recycling programme, Every Can Counts.
Working with both the staff and student communities, the programme encourages and enables more people to recycle drinks cans wherever they are, be it in the workplace or ‘on the go’. Support is provided on every aspect of running a recycling programme from providing collection bins through to communications materials to promote recycling across campuses.
This video shows how Every Can Counts is being implemented by Durham University to help achieve and demonstrate commitment to its environmental goals. The programme is being championed by both staff and student Environment Representatives and runs in all of the university’s sixteen colleges.
Since 2008 the recycling rate at Durham University has risen from approximately 28% to around 50%.
