EAUC donates to 2017 Conference host carbon offset project
31st July 2017
As part of our sustainable event strategy, each year, we make a carbon offset donation to the institution that hosted the EAUC Annual Conference.
After the 2017 conference we provided Lancaster University with a donation which they are incorporating within their large scale tree planting project in order to offset carbon emissions related to travel.
Lancaster University carbon emissions from business and academic travel, staff and student commuting and student travel from home amount to approximately 20,000tCO2e per annum. Extensive tree planting is required to offset this level of emissions and nearby upland areas have been identified as potential planting locations. They hope to undertake the planting through volunteers and integrating a day or two of planting as a compulsory part of appropriate University courses. The initial phase of the work will involve trial planting on parts of the University estate, prior to scaling the project up and planting in upland areas.
As well as offsetting carbon emissions, the project offers a range of benefits in terms of staff and student involvement in environmental projects, integrating sustainability into the curriculum, plus practical benefits such as reducing flood risk from upland areas.
Save the date: EAUC Annual Conference will take place on 19-21 June 2018 at Keele University -
