17th EAUC Annual ConferenceAbout the University of Nottingham Campus
The campus has been a Civic Trust Green Flag Award Winner every year since 2003 – the only university campus to achieve this status. Other examples of sustainability initiatives include a recent refurbishment of a 40s building and seven homes on the University Park Campus which have been designed and constructed to various degrees of innovation and flexibility to allow the testing of different aspects of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), energy efficient design and renewable energy systems. The project aims to stimulate sustainable design ideas and promote new ways of providing affordable, environmentally sustainable housing that are innovative in their design. We will be showcasing some of these interesting initiatives to our Conference delegates.
As usual, we will be encouraging as many of you as possible to take public transport. With Nottingham centrally located in the country and with good train links, local buses will provide transport to/from the station/campus this should be easy!
You asked for it - two choices of accommodation
For the first time we are able to offer delegates a choice of accommodation as we're often asked for this! As well as the halls of residence accommodation, we are also able to offer a hotel option. In line with our sustainability objectives, we're pleased to offer rooms at the up-market Orchard Hotel which is being built to a BREEAM standard. The £20m eco-friendly hotel is being built on University Park, adjacent to the East Midlands Conference Centre and will be available as an accommodation option for use by conference delegates.
Built to the highest environmental standards, the hotel will feature state-of-the-art technology to reduce carbon emissions. Solar photovoltaic panels and ground-sourced heat technology are incorporated, as well as a lower energy assisted-cooling ventilation system. Architects and interior designers have developed the eco-friendly building featuring accessible rooftop terraces, green roofs and maximum use of natural daylight. Open spaces will provide superb views of The University of Nottingham's extensively landscaped campus, spanning 330 acres.
More information on the Conference programme will be announced later on in the year. For now, please make sure you reserve the dates now in your calendar – 17 to 19 April 2013!
