EAUC announce membership of GUPES
1st August 2013
We are delighted to announce that the EAUC are now members of the
Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES).
The goal of GUPES is to promote the mainstreaming of environment and sustainability practices and curricula into universities by supporting innovative approaches to education. This is done in accordance to the ongoing UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-04, and the outcome document of the Rio+20 Summit - The Future We Want.
By the EAUC being a member of GUPES brings our Members to be part of the GUPES network of over 370 universities from 5 different continents. GUPES has been established by the Nairobi based
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Iain Patton, EAUC CEO, says
"the EAUC's membership of GUPES brings huge benefits to our Members by bringing them closer to global initiatives and ensuring UK universities are being heard on the global scene. We are looking forward to working with GUPES to further develop key EAUC activities such as the Green Gown Awards and LiFE as well as enhancing the Platform for Sustainable Performance in Education"
Mahesh Pradhan, Chief, Environmental Education and Training Unit, says
"we believe that the ongoing programmes at EAUC are very relevant in enhancing the work of GUPES and the wider work of UNEP. We look forward to working closely with EAUC".
We will keep Members informed of our partnership.
