City College Plymouth named best Fairtrade college at South West Fairtrade Business Awards
29th March 2016
City College Plymouth has been announced as winners of the Best Fairtrade College/University category at the South West Fairtrade Business Awards 2016 on Friday 11th March.
The event was opened by Molly Scott Cato MEP and the ceremony was hosted by ethical beauty and wellbeing expert, Liz Earle MBE.
It was the culmination of Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations in the region. The event also forms part of the Sit Down for Breakfast, Stand Up for Farmers campaign, highlighting the fact that many farmers in developing countries provide food for us, but don’t get paid enough to feed their own families - an injustice Fairtrade seeks to redress.
At the awards, a number of other category winners were announced including Best Fairtrade Office and Best Faitrade Accomodation/Conference Centre. Mark Jones (Aramark General Manager) also won a silver award for ‘Best Fairtrade Advocate’.
The college has been seen to be taking the lead across a range of sustainability activities. This includes their work in and around fair trade.
City College Plymouth has accredited Fairtrade status and their approaches to fair trade were featured alongside a number of institutions in 2015 through the EAUC's
Fair Trade Community of Practice.
