Cynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales carried out some research in 2014 into the way the FE sector in Wales is embracing the concept of sustainable development and turning theory into practice.

The result of this research is the report entitled: 'How the Further Education Sector Is Adopting Sustainable Development as a Central Organising Principle' and four case studies.

This case study focuses on Managing Facilities and Estates.

Like a number of Sustainable Development Charter Signatories, Further Education colleges are responsible for large estates and complex facilities. Since the recent round of mergers, college managers are now responsible for multiple sites often many miles apart. Estate management however is one of the areas that colleges have been most successful in adopting a sustainable development management ethos.
