London College of Fashion’s Widening Participation Unit has nurtured a relationship with St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney since 2011. Widening Participation have lead numerous ongoing projects which offer the opportunity for students, alumni, and staff to share specialist skills developed at LCF (such as knitting, sewing & crocheting) with participants who include in-patient, respite, day hospice wards and social groups, carers, hospice staff and volunteers as well as local schools and residents from the neighborhood. Over the past year 28 workshops have been delivered with 148 participants taking part and the pieces created have been shared with the wider community by being exhibited at various events such as the Money for Life Fashion Show.
