London College of Fashion has installed an innovative new timer, which reduces electricity consumption through limiting the time which irons are left on. This technological solution has been paired with an LCF-designed, printed ironing board cover to raise awareness of energy consumption for students and staff using the equipment in their design practice. The estimated annual energy saving per iron is 400 kWh equating to 200kg CO2 and over £40. Additionally the equipment will burn out less frequently, reducing maintenance visits which cost £150 each. With 65 iron and boiler combinations across LCF, this is a potential annual saving of 13000kg CO2 and £2600.
