The University of Winchester has teamed up with the conservation group Hampshire Swifts to develop a ground-breaking initiative to save the Swift population of Winchester. In the Summer of 2018, volunteers surveyed 100 University-managed student houses in the city to record swift nesting activity and create an up-to-date picture of the Swift population. They then brought together Hampshire County Council, Winchester City Council, Winchester College, the Wildlife Trust, the local hospital, students and student landlords to create an action plan for Swifts in Winchester.
