In the past 2 years SRUC have planted over 800m of new hedges and drawn up a maintenance plan for our hedges that will allow a variety of growth types, increasing their habitat value to a wider range of species. In total we now have over 2000m of hedges on site and maintenance work on the hedgerows is carried out during November through to January so that birds can feed on the fruit they produce. In some sections of hedges, trees have been planted every 100 or so metres which are allowed to mature, further increasing the benefit to biodiversity of the areas.
