Green Gown Awards – 2022

In their 18th year, the Green Gown Awards 2022 continued to recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives led by universities and colleges across the UK and Ireland. As sustainability moves up the mainstream agenda, these Awards remain an established and prestigious recognition of best sustainability practice within the tertiary education sector.

As a leading participant in the United Nations negotiations to develop 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, the UK and Ireland must fulfil its commitment to deliver said targets. It is made clear by the hundreds of Green Gowns applicants that the UK Government must invest more in the solutions being developed by our Higher and Further Education institutions - they are, after all, leading agents of change within our communities and international networks. 

Among the projects, the Green Gown Awards saw a wide range of work that spans whole curriculums and operates at all levels of institutions. Conducted by students, staff, academics, external stakeholders, these efforts are seen across the UK and Ireland, motivating those in and outwith the sector to transform and take action.
