The University of Reading’s Making Beer Green Initiative is specifically focussed on improving the sustainability of its seven bar operations spread across seven sites.
The University discovered early on that it needed to make many small changes rather than one large and impressive ‘wow’ change! This perhaps makes the submission less exciting than others but does mean many can learn from the example across the Education and Hospitality Sectors and they are all about sharing their Green Beer!
Energy is one of the big themes within sustainability and the University of Reading only procures green electricity, and in its green beer bars have taken several steps to reduce its energy consumption.
The project savings will contribute to the University’s commitment to reduce Carbon Emissions by 35% as well as working as a socially responsible operation.
