Green research at Sheffield University

Through MESAS (Multiscale Engineering Simulations at Sheffield), Sheffield University’s Engineering Materials Department has a core strength in multi-scale modelling of materials and much of this work has an environmental focus, such as biomineralisation and biomimetic materials. By investing in low energy PC and server systems, the research team has lowered the environmental impacts of their computational-intensive modelling. Among the resulting benefits are cost savings, reduced space needs due to the reduced cooling required for lower energy PCs and job satisfaction due to lowering carbon emissions of their environmental research work.
