The University of Dundee Queen Mother Building, purpose-built to house the School of Computing, is a simple, low energy design, which saves energy, reduces environmental impacts and enhances productivity. Locally manufactured materials were mainly used for its construction and its main contractor and most subcontractors were local too. Among the features of its low energy design are orientation, high thermal mass and good insulation, and natural ventilation. It is low carbon due to energy efficiency as well as high level of local sourcing and use of natural materials.
