The University of Hertfordshire has carried out a green ICT project to achieve a number of objectives associated with its data centres, namely, to raise the standard of its IT services, to lower the environmental impact, to reduce the operational costs, and to cut down potential risks to the university’s IT systems from hazards (e.g. fire, flooding).
The results delivered by the project include a capacity increase of 69%, a 55% reduction in the carbon footprint, an annual operational cost saving of £38,000. Moreover, thanks to this project, the university has become the first European university to achieve compliance against the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres.
