Our Community, Our Future: Creating Culture for Sustainability

The JCU sustainability club is a highly active student group working to promote a sustainable lifestyle, connect and empower people to create change throughout JCU and the surrounding region. The club holds weekly public workshops/presentations and run campus and community projects, creating changes towards a sustainable future. The passion and motivation of our members has seen us become a source of facilitation and support for community.

Top 3 learnings:

• Having a local environmental advocate to teach us skills in an interactive manner was priceless.
• Students respond when they are engaged with interactive activities rather than lecture-style learning and they embrace the opportunities to lead projects.
• Inviting the community to participate in our events has broadened our reach and we have benefited greatly from the experience and knowledge of many community members.
