The University of West London has invested £50 million to improve students' learning and social experience as part of Future Campus, an environmentally sustainable redevelopment project. Improvement of employment rates is at the core of UWL’s strategic direction and Future Campus Project has created partnerships with future employers and developed community investment programmes. The key element of the project comprised of the demolition of one of the blocks and construction of a 'Heartspace', comprising of a Library, Performance Centre and new student facilities. Environmental sustainability features of the development include minimising energy use and carbon emissions through good design, specification and equipment. Energy demand reduction measures have been incorporated through innovative measures including improving thermal performance of external walls,roofs and facade permeability as well as lighting improvements, heating system generation efficiencies. Energy generation for the site will be through sustainable technologies including Combined Heat and Power and solar panels.
