Social Media Training

22nd Mar 2018 09:45 – 16:00

Social Media is an essential form of communication for universities and colleges, and a highly valuable channel for communicating sustainability issues for any organisation. Effective social media use will increase engagement with projects, events and campaigns - NUS’s campaign ‘The Last Straw’ is a great example of this. When done well it can also be a key driver of a culture and behaviour change.  It can help to foster environmental awareness, and assist with growing Green Champions networks along with raising the profile of the work you are doing.

This full-day workshop will help you ensure your social media activity is closely aligned to your institution or organisation's sustainability goals. You'll come away from the session with an understanding of how social media can help your institution, department or project achieve its aims, how you can protect your organisation, staff and volunteers with a simple policy, which channels are key to your online presence, and content planning techniques.

You'll get a chance to get hands-on with Twitter - exploring the fundamentals, Lists, Hashtags and more - plus you'll learn what makes a Facebook Page or Group really work for a mission-led group or organisation.

There's also time allocated for an open discussion session within the schedule, allowing us to explore specific topics set by the group. This could be a particular channel like LinkedIn, Snapchat or Instagram, or it could be an issue you're facing in your organisation.

This training will help you to:
  • Better align your social media activity and sustainability goals
  • Develop a social media strategy and policy to keep you and your organisation safe
  • Explore a range of channels like Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, and e-Newsletters, and learn which channels will best engage your audience
  • Understand the role of your website, blogging and video & audio content
  • Get hands on!
This course is being delivered by Ross McCulloch from Third Sector Lab. Ross has ran a number of courses with us before, where participants gave the following feedback:

"This has been one of the most useful training courses I've ever been on - it's been an area of real confusion / fear factor for me and the course has turned round my lack of confidence and actually made me raring to go with new ideas. Am absolutely delighted."

"I thought the training session was excellent and pitched perfectly at the right level for the attendees and tailored for their particular needs."

"This was a really interesting event that offered a lot of material that requires further research and attention. I would encourage others to attend."
