Embedding sustainable development in the curriculum: sample curriculum managers audit

It was Kofi Anna, Former UN Secretary General in 2001 who said “our biggest challenge this century is to take an idea that seems abstract – sustainable development – and turn it into a reality for all the world’s people’’

A society which has sustainable aspirations is one that at all levels be it local or global is just, equitable and living within the environmental limits of our planet, both in the present and in the future. In the FHE sector we need to take an abstract idea and turn it into reality in a wide range of contexts and disciplines. Every single course provided in our sector can embed this through a combination of skills, knowledge and attitudes.

This sample audit helped embed the sustainable ideal in the curriculum during 2010-11 and could be customised to a specific institution.
