A large proportion of the development comprises of grass covered surfaces, including natural sports pitches, parkland grassland, amenity grassland and reinforced grass footpaths.
The grass areas have varying degrees of ecological value depending on the grass type. Sports and other amenity grassland provide good feeding habitat for various bird species such as Thrushes.
The roof of the Sports Centre has been specifically designed as a ‘brown roof’ system to further increase the potential for biodiversity, and provide a habitat for local indigenous species to colonise.
