Moving from Compliance to Leading Change - Policy Drivers

This presentation was given as an introduction to the 'Moving from Compliance to Leading Change' Summit at the EAUC-Scotland Conference 2017, by George Tarvit, Sustainability and Climate Change Manager, Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Session Outline

This presentation presented information on climate change policy drivers and legislative compliance, drawing out lessons from mandatory climate change reporting, and exploring what leading change in the public sector could encompass.

Key messages from analysis of the Public Body Reporting from the further and higher education sector are:

• Governance - very few names a senior individual with climate responsibility
• Adaptation - most have not conducted a risk assessment or adaptative action
• Procurement - most have a relevant procurement strategy or policy in place

Greater capability for change is needed as are more drivers, plus authentic leadership which walks the talk.

Lots of scope for SSN and EAUC collaboration going forward.
