Contractor Auditing
It is important to audit the contractor for the following reasons:
- As you are the producer of the waste, you still have a responsibility to ensure that your waste is disposed off in an appropriate manner that complies with the Duty of Care. You should check that waste management or carriage licences are current and, periodically, that the waste is disposed in the specified way.
- You need confirmation of accurate information on waste production, diversion from landfill and recycling rates as well as any charges associated.
The following is a suggested minimum for auditing:
- Monthly progress meetings to discuss general operations and any modifications needed
- Quarterly monitoring statements giving brief details of progress
- Six monthly summary reports
- Annual detailed report including wastes generated, locations, recycling rates, costs etc.
- Annual visit to contractors facilities to see waste is disposed of appropriately for Duty of Care
