A large number of chemicals are used on a more or less daily basis in FHE institutions, ranging from cleaning products through to laboratory chemicals.
The appropriate disposal mechanism for waste chemicals is largely determined by the nature and properties of the particular chemical, although in some instances quantity may also be an issue. Information about the hazards associated with various chemicals can be found on hazard data sheets and labels on containers.

Where large quantities of a chemical exist there may be opportunities available for recycling and recovery e.g. some solvents and photographic processing chemicals.
EDIE (Environmental Data Interactive Exchange) Marketplace lists companies active in recycling and recovery of various waste streams, including chemical and solvent wastes, as well as much other useful information.
