Bicycle rack use monitoring - EAUC Member responses

A question from Prisca Baron, Projects Support Officer, Sustainability Hub, Kingston University, asked on the Educational Members' Network on Members' experience of monitoring the use of bicycle racks.

This topic attracted responses from four Members a summary of which is below.

Some have already carried out or are conducting visual auditing of bike-rack use, usually through security staff or student interns. The responses contained practical tips (e.g. photograph rack and count in office and monitor cycles parked elsewhere such as chained to lamp posts).

Particularly useful is a template from Exeter (available for downloading), where comprehensive recording is carried out for making links between variables (e.g. number of bicycles parked and the weather condition).
